1.
love, wild eyed friend, you listen here / i didn’t talk you down / just so you could bolt again / when i was a child, / i spoke like a child / when i was a child, / i thought like a child / love enters and leaves through a strident door / that sings the brash brass of angels / between serene dotted whole rests / as a child my grip / would slacken and slip / but its acquired the faith / of a man over a cliff. / deep in this beautiful thing is the threat / that it will leave / deep in this beautiful thing is the reminder / that it will leave / that we are leaving. / wrap your chest around it.
2.
Still Life 04:55
our minds were clear / the earth shook we paid no mind / from the ripples in our wine / we slowly kept time / our minds are freed by mild weather / painless and well-fed / a vision in the distance / walks an even pace ahead / we devote our lives to mild weather / our roots grow chutes in the thin air / in this careful peace / the past slackens its leash / we invite it in as an equal / and cradle its soft head / a vision in the distance / walks an even pace ahead / stare straight into the camera / history will not have you / with your gaze unhinged / from the present / bravely we remember / and carelessly proceed / a vision in the distance / walks an even pace ahead.
3.
Night Shift 05:49
the night arrives / and the moon hovers a sickly light / barely above the horizon line. / why should we expect it to shuffle its aching feet / across the encompassing darkness? / and leave its own comforting darkness? / the day returns / the clocks tick and the ocean churns / and where am i?  in the same place  i put myself last night. / where with my evening glass and a herculean refusal to act / i sat and marveled at the stillness / and the boredom of it all. / the night arrives / and the moon is still there where we last locked eyes / but who knows - wheres he's been in the intervening time. / confusion reigns!  it reigns and it rains and it blocks up the drains / and i think, "maybe, today will be the day / for the ruffling of sails and shuffling feet." / if i am to stay / may i be like the lamppost that lights your way / as you pass below - a quick flash in a steady glow / and if you look up at night and the moon's in a frenzied and fearful flight / we can still marvel at the stillness / and the boredom of it all.
4.
Like Stones 05:41
we polish each other like stones. / now what words will adhere / to our glassy surface? / when she is done with me / i will be young again / free of the past / and the future. / the houses of the town where we live / shed their dust like a useless skin / squalor in reverse / time goes back home / free of the past / and the present. / we polish each other like stones / sip a bowl of primordial soup. / when she is done with me / i will be free, so free / of the past / and the future.
5.
the hills have hides. they are golden / they are sleeping. they are waiting / for the trouble to pass. / the road through the valley / is a damnable distance.  built by / men like me, who were away. / they blasted through the hillls / and sent letters back filled with / drawings, promises, and pay. / the clouds have minds. they are thinking. / they are dropping their shadows / like robes on the grass. / the road through the valley / is a damnable distance.  built by / men like me, who were away.
6.
Shirt 04:02
to get into it / as it lies / crumpled on the floor / without disturbing a single crease / respectful / of the way i threw it down / last night / the way it happened to land / almost managing / the impossible contortions / doubling back now / through a knotted sleave.
7.
Its a ten minute ride to the end of the earth / that with endless shrugs tries to shake us loose / we welcome the reminder that our roots are not here / that we have no roots / I look at this landscape as if it were my life / and the birds in the trees were the essence of things / how did I get so in tune? / And so confused? / We gather and share all our natures have seen / like building a mansion on a ship on the sea / any reasonable man could see the whole thing is doomed / but I refuse / we share the dreams of our lives - share the twigs of our nests / all the clouds in our heads – all the flowers in our chests / our wandering souls and the cages we use / to keep them true. / 3 times in one week the solid earth purred / like a cat at our feet after feasting on bird / no homes were destroyed and no body was hurt / but the message was heard / to all would settle in a city like this / with its cool caress, and its looming abyss: / with the knowledge of your impending doom / comes a weird endless youth / a strange endless youth.
8.
No Home 04:59
Slowly, / the houses were sold / the papers were boxed up and stored / in no particular order / there are no walls anymore / no walls to hold / your sodden and old / concept of home / there is no home / no place for your bones / just the dream of a childhood / that you never owned / there is no home / no place to call home / though your parents may call you / even call you their own. / the old coalminer / goes back to the mine / what trace of sweet memory / could he possibly find / is the soot and the coal / that brush against the cold / of his weathered hands / that have nothing to hold / there is no home / no place for your bones / just the dream of a lifetime / that you never owned / there is no home / no place to call home / though your parents may call you / even call you their own.
